Easter Eggs!

Happy Easter!! I saw this egg dying technique on www.foodgawker.com, its my favorite food/recipe website. I thought I would try it, it didn't look too hard, and the ones they showed pictures of turned out awesome! First you start out with some old silk ties, I got mine at the thrift store for 1.00 each, then i found out that 2 of mine weren't all silk, I decided to try using them anyway, the silk ones definitely work way better. You have to rip all the seams out, and have just the piece of silk, you can you silk hankies or shirts too, I just did not have any.
Then of course you need some plain, raw eggs.
I wrapped each egg completely in the silk, with the printed side in, then tied it with thread, but they recommend twist ties, which would have been 10 times easier, but I don't have any of those.
(and if you can't tell, I don't really know how to use Bo's camera, so the focus is all off.)
Here they are all wrapped, I almost just left them like this, I think it looks pretty!

Next you have to wrap them in another layer of just thin cotton, I used an old pillow case.

Then boil them on a low boil in a ceramic or glass pot with about 1 cup white vinegar in the water for about 20 minutes.

FINISHED PRODUCT!!!
(again the focus is off...sorry, maybe Tracy can help me learn how to use this thing!!)
I think this one is my favorite.
Yeah its my favorite.

This one turned out really good, but I wish it was darker.
Ohhhhh I like this one too!
This is all of them. The tie selection wasn't great, but if you do them, stick with bold, vibrant, patterns, and the ugly ties made the best ones. Who knew! Reds, blues, purples, and dark greens worked good, and make sure they are 100% silk, if it doesn't say it on the label it says it one the end of the skinny side of the tie, I learned that after I bought them, oh well.
